Winners of the Sixth Annual Young Artists String Quartet Competition

Timberline High School String QuartetTimberline High School String Quartet, pre-college first place: Coach Phyllis Saunders; Joseph Lim, violin; Chapman Ellsworth, viola; Megan Schwab, violin; Suzie Lee, cello.The Boise Chamber Music Society is pleased to announce the winners of the Sixth Annual Young Artists String Quartet Competition, as judged Saturday by the members of the St. Petersburg String Quartet.

First place, including the $800 prize, in the Pre-College round was awarded to the Timberline High School String Quartet: Joseph Lim and Megan Schwab, violins; Chapman Ellsworth, viola; and Suzie Lee, cello; coached by Phyllis Saunders. The THS String Quartet performed works by Mozart and Mendelssohn. Second Place in the Pre-College round was awarded to the Caldwell High School Quartet: Cameron Candies and Marissa Dey, violins; Laura Garcia, viola; and Alyssa Townsend, cello; coached by Gini Rosandick. Also performing in the live contest were two quartets from Boise High School coached by Wendy Hartman.

Caldwell High School String QuartetIn the Collegiate round, both the Boise State University Quartet and the College of Idaho Quartet shared the honors in a split for the first- place award of $1000. The C of I Quartet, coached by David Johnson, featured Geoffrey Hill and Maggie Torrey, violins; Aurora Torres, viola; and Kyle True, cello. BSU's Quartet of Maggie Snow and Becky Green, violins; Amy Tompkins, viola; and Erica Seibel, cello was coached by Linda Kline Lamar and Brian Hodges.
