FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
TWELFTH ANNUAL
BCMS YOUNG ARTIST STRING QUARTET COMPETITIONS
Saturday, March 11, 9-11:30 am

The Boise Chamber Music Society announces the 12th Annual Young Artist String Quartet Competitions, Saturday, Mar. 11, at 9:00 am – 11:30 in the Morrison Center Recital Hall. This inspirational event is free and open to the public.

Six student string quartets at the pre-college and collegiate levels will each perform short programs of contrasting works. High schools represented include Boise High, Timberline High, and Wood River High School. Collegiate quartets from the College of Idaho and Boise State University will also compete.

First-place winners receive cash prizes, and all participating quartets receive written comments from members of the Chiara String Quartet, who perform in concert Friday night, Mar. 10, on the Boise Chamber Music Series.

Renowned for bringing fresh excitement to traditional string quartet repertoire as well as for creating insightful interpretations of new music, the Chiara String Quartet (Rebecca Fischer and Hyeyung Julie Yoon, violins; Jonah Sirota, viola; Gregory Beaver, cello) captivates its audiences. The Chiara has established itself as among America’s most respected ensembles, lauded for its "highly virtuosic, edge-of-the-seat playing" (The Boston Globe). Performing together since 2000, the Chiara performs from memory, without printed sheet music. After memorizing a work, the Quartet is rewarded with deeply gratifying performances where each member feels fully present in the moment, truly performing with heart, by heart.
