2022 Winners Release
17th Annual BCMS Young Artist String Quartet Competition Results
The Boise Chamber Music Society is pleased to announce the results of the Seventeenth Annual Young Artists String Quartet Competitions, as judged Saturday, Feb. 26, by the members of the Castalian String Quartet of London. This is the first live competition since 2019.
The Pre-College Competition, including the $800 prize, was won by the Timberline High School Quartet: Wonyoung Lee, violin; Jake Hiller, violin; Kate Durham, viola; and Cole Sutherland, cello; coached by Micah Claffey and performing works by Asplmayer and Smetana. The Capital High School Quartet, Jaden Twedt, violin; Alex Bravo, violin; Nicole Guan, viola; and Jay Fuhriman, cello also performed, with works by Borodin and Mendelssohn, as coached by Sandy Shoen.
The Collegiate Competition, including the $1000 prize, was won by The Diurnata Quartet from Brigham Young University-Idaho: Hwanhui "Joy" Gil, violin; Nicole Graham, violin; Mia Richards, viola; Christian Martinez, cello; coached by Dallin Hansen and performing works by Dvorak and Mozart. Also performing were another quartet from BYU-Id, the Snow Quartet, William Herem, violin; Rebekah Loveridge, violin; Naomi Smith, viola; and Arza Howell, cello (Smetana and Haydn) and the Boise State University String Quartet, Natalie Henson, violin; Rymma Tsema, violin; Alyssa Pearl, viola; and Jonah Haddad, cello, coached by Craig Purdy, Brian Hodges and Linda Kline.
