Quartet Competition winners 2017

The Boise Chamber Music Society is pleased to announce the results of the Twelfth Annual Young Artists String Quartet Competition, as judged Saturday, Mar. 11, by the members of the Chiara String Quartet.

The Pre-College Competition, including the $800 prize, was won by the “Sun Valley Quartet” from Timberline High School: Ann Lawrence and Alice Jung, violins; Derek Focht, viola; and Lewis Garner, cello; coached by Phyllis Saunders, and performing works by Borodin and Beethoven.

The Collegiate Competition, including the $1000 prize, was won by the “Aestus Quartet” (Graduate Scholarship Quartet of Boise State University: Anne Wolf and DaNece Lyman, violins; Emily Jones, viola; and Kyle True, cello; coached by Dr. Brian Hodges, Dr. Linda Kline, and Prof. Craig Purdy, and performing works by Haydn and Sibelius.

Other Pre-College Quartets who competed live, after selection through a recorded preliminary round, were the Harriman Quartet from Wood River High School and the Catalpa Quartet from Boise High School. Other Collegiate contestants were the College of Idaho String Quartet and the Quartetto Impresario from Boise State.
