Boise Chamber Music Society Young Artist String Quartet Competition Winners Announced

The Boise Chamber Music Society congratulates all the finalists who competed Friday, May 5, in their first-ever Young Artist String Quartet Competition at the Morrison Center Recital Hall. Internationally-known guest artists, the YING Quartet, served as judges for the Collegiate and Pre-College rounds, and chose the Boise State String Quartet--Anna Marie Hladik & Rebecca Green, violins; Henry Olvera, viola; and Aaron King, cello; coached by Prof. Craig Purdy--as the “Dee Harris” Grand Prize Winner. First prize winner in the Pre-College round was the Timberline String Quartet: Katelyn Westergard & Tanya Dorsey, violins; Garret Ma, viola; and Jake Saunders, cello; coached by Phyllis Saunders (Timberline High School). Second prizes were taken by the Albertson College String Quartet coached by David Johnson and the Seleman Quartet from Centennial High School, coached by Marcie von Huene. Other finalists included the Animae Quartet coached by Prof. Linda Kline Lamar, also from Boise State, and Centennial High School’s Presto Quartet.

The winning quartets were heard in the lobby of the Egyptian Theater at the Saturday night concert of the Turtle Island String Quartet and Ying Quartet May 6.
